Most of them said they hadn’t washed their own clothing before because their mom didn’t want them in the way. So they didn’t get the opportunity.

You don’t know what you don’t know and as we get older, people can feel embarrassed realizing they don’t know a skill someone else considers basic and essential. People don’t learn skills for so many different reasons.
